About the Olympiad

STEM professionals have a significant impact on various aspects of our daily lives, both at home and at work, and in complex routines. Their crucial role spans diverse domains, including designing machinery, inventing medicines, and enabling access to new technologies, among other areas.

In response to the challenges and uncertainties of the rapidly changing technological landscape, the national education policy 2020 has proposed specific skills that students need to develop. These skills, such as digital literacy, coding, computational thinking, and artificial intelligence, are critical for students to become successful, innovative, adaptable, and productive individuals in various fields.

The SilverZone Foundation is proud to announce the 2nd edition of the SilverZone STEM Innovation Olympiad, which focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM education is rapidly advancing and is poised to become the foundation of future technologies.

The SilverZone STEM Innovation Olympiad aims to promote a deeper understanding of STEM subjects and their real-world applications among students. Its questions test students’ knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in various STEM fields.

The Olympiad is open to students from classes 1 to 10 and consists of different levels that assess their abilities and knowledge in specific STEM areas. The unique structure and evaluation process of the Olympiad helps students identify their strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to concentrate on areas that need improvement. Participation in the SilverZone STEM Innovation Olympiad not only recognizes students’ hard work but also motivates them to pursue higher studies in STEM fields. It fosters a passion for STEM subjects and encourages innovation and creativity among young minds.

The SilverZone STEM Innovation Olympiad is an excellent platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for STEM subjects. It encourages students to become innovative thinkers and prepares them for future challenges in the rapidly advancing technological world.

Why Participate in the STEM Innovation Olympiad?

Although there is much to be said about the benefits of STEM education, STEM concepts primarily help children develop new ways of thinking by promoting curiosity and analysis. Establishing these at an early age (infancy through third grade), when young minds are most malleable, establishes lifelong thinking skills. Whether that’s through higher education or professional development, STEM is critical to optimising their educational trajectory throughout the rest of their lives.

A student’s learning capacity is the highest when they are young, a stronghold on the basics can lead to expertise in their field of study. The STEM Innovation Olympiads aim to train the youth because they not only compete with their classmates at their school level but also with the students of their age internationally.

Taking global challenges at a young age ensures that the child stands victorious in every sphere of their academic and career path.

Structure of the Olympiad

The Olympiad is open for Classes from 1st to Class 10th and will be conducted in two stages:

Stage 1

In this stage, the student will compete with their counterpart. They will qualify for Stage 2 only after scoring a cutoff marking of 75%.

Marking Scheme and Syllabus

SilverZone International STEM Innovation Olympiad (STEM) syllabus is comprised of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM education and the application of technology empower every student to use their creativity and it helps to develop their problem-solving skills.

Science

Science is an important discipline of STEM education. It helps us to become innovative and better at research and critical thinking which is one of the prime goals of STEM education. It teaches us what does our physical world make of and how does it work? Here, we learn the forces that exist in nature, measure them, experiment with them then use this knowledge to build new technologies and for other purposes. For example, understanding gravity, which is a fundamental force of nature, is essential for designing bridges, automobiles, spaceships etc.

We also need to understand the chemical composition of materials as different materials have different properties and they behave differently. Which material is to be used in technology or to make skyscrapers and which is not, we can decide only if we know the chemical composition and properties of the materials. Understanding the working of the living world is also important.

Many of our technologies have been developed using biomimicry. We observe how things work in the living world and then apply this knowledge to make technology for our convenience and meet the challenges our world is facing. For example, the flying of birds and insects gave us the idea to make flying machines like aeroplanes and helicopters.

So, science is essential to understand the living, material and physical world and develop the skills of collaboration, research, critical enquiry, experimentation, exploration and discovery.

Technology and Engineering

Technology & Engineering have been used in every sphere of human life. It can help eliminate the necessity for humans to perform tedious tasks and also has evolved and shaped our workplaces in many ways, through the adoption of tools like the internet and email for communications, word processing, spreadsheets and presentations for office productivity, electronic databases, robots and artificial intelligence for automation.

Coding is the backbone of Technology and Engineering. It is the most demanded skill of the industry at present and the demand seems to be rising rapidly in the future as well. Moreover, almost every trending technology whether it be related to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, or any other requires you to have at least some basic knowledge of programming or coding.

Furthermore, students who learn to code, strengthen logical and regional skills and develop various other crucial skills also such as consistency, algorithmic thinking, etc. that further help them abundantly during their academic as well as professional career.

Mathematics

Math allows pupils to hone their problem-solving abilities, which are essential in STEM education, this approach prepares them to tackle other challenges in STEM Careers. Maths can be considered the fundamental language of the universe with applications transcending all time and boundaries. The formulas discovered by ancient philosophers still hold significant value to this day in new technological applications.

This is but a fraction of the importance mathematics holds over technological advancements. The very media we enjoy in the form of videos or games is a variation of ones and zeros tied together in such an intricate manner that thinking of life without it seems impossible. Where science is the subjective form of learning, maths is the objective that gives it a foundation to experiment and practicality.

The raw score is derived from the total of multiplying each correct answer with its base marks. i.e. Raw Score = SUM (correct answer X subsequent base Marks).

Total Marks

Total Marks = Raw Score + SUM (Weightage of Correct Answers).

Weightage: Each Question carries an additional weightage starting from .0001, .0002 and so on. For E.g. Question No. 1 will have the weightage of .0001 and Question No. 2 will have the weightage of .0002 and so on. The weightage will be used to break the tie while calculating Class/Zonal/Olympiads ranks.
